Lankford reflects on the hard times of the Great Depression, his work in the CCC, his Army career--including his time as a prisoner of war in Nazi Germany. After returning home and getting married, he re-enlisted and was dispatched to Korea, where he earned five bronze battle stars to go with the four he had earned in World War II.
