Samantha grew up on the side of a volcano, learning dances and chants from her grandma. After Samantha turns thirteen, terrible dangers begin to threaten her friends and the village. Samantha learns that the dances wield a power that can be controlled to wield power, or go out of control and be fatal. She overcomes obstacles, but when a cataclysmic tidal wave threatens to destroy not just the village but half the island, will she be able to stop it?
