The mysterious Librarian, who curates the collection of arcane volumes, offers Brett help in the form of a book, a book that causes the reader to question the nature of reality and retribution. The Librarian moves on, visiting the traumatized victims of heinous crimes across the country, each from a different walk of life, each suffering from different circumstances, each longing for the same thing... revenge. The Librarian offers these victims his assistance, and his mystical talents, promising that vengeance shall be visited upon their enemies.
