Recenzii
The book, by contextualising Suárez's thought both in its own time and in ours, stands poised to contribute significantly to early modern and contemporary ecclesiology alike.
DeMeuse's Unity and Catholicity in Christ is, in sum, a welcome contribution to the ongoing revival of studies on early modern intellectual culture and the theology of Francisco Suárez in particular. It should be required reading in any doctoral seminar on ecclesiology and marks an important advance in the overcoming of old prejudices against one of the Society's greatest minds.
This book will primarily be of interest to researchers in the growing field of early modern Catholic theology. But D. has made clear that anyone who wants to think hard about the nature of the church, ecumenism, and religious life has much to learn from the sophisticated work of Suárez and the vast, undiscovered country of the theology from this epoch.
