Unearth

Buried alive is not the final chapter.

What do we lose along the way? What do we miss? And what happens when we finally begin to look beneath the life we've been trying to survive?

Unearth by Lamont Neal is a story told through free verse-a journey through loss, memory, struggle, and renewal.

Divided into four movements-Descent, Shattering, Echoes, and Becoming-the book follows a speaker through the buried places of a life: the weight of the past, the people and possibilities that disappear, the wounds that remain, and the difficult search for something worth holding on to.

These poems move through darkness and uncertainty, but they do not remain there. Images of storms, elevators, fire, memory, and breath create a landscape where breaking down and rebuilding are part of the same journey.

Along the way, the speaker confronts what has been lost, what was never fully experienced, and what might still be possible. There are no easy answers, no single moment that repairs everything. Instead, there is movement-a step, a breath, a small return to life.

Unearth is both a collection of poems and a connected story told through free verse, inviting readers to follow an inner journey through grief, endurance, self-confrontation, and renewal.

For anyone who has felt lost, carried an old burden, mourned an unrealized possibility, or wondered whether there is still something ahead, this book offers a place to begin looking again.

Dig outward. Dig upward. Find what remains. And rise.
