Notă biografică

Ethel Turner (1873-1958) was an English-born Australian novelist and children's literature writer. She started her writing career at eighteen with her sister Lillian, with whom she founded the Parthenon, a journal for young people. As 'Dame Durden', she wrote children's columns for the Illustrated Sydney News and later for the Town and Country Journal. In 1891 the family moved to Inglewood, a large house in Lindfield, now Killara, which forms the fictional setting for Seven Little Australians. Tasmania-based Jenny Masters exhibited her first portrait at an agricultural show when she was eight years old, but her mother had helped a lot with the eyes, so it didn't count. After qualifying as a nurse and midwife, she felt empowered enough then to choose her own direction in life, and chose to go to art school. Since then a sprinkling of various courses in aspects of fine art and writing has nurtured her arty inclination, and her recent retirement offers a luxurious amount of time. James and Gillian worked together at ELT materials developer International Language Teaching Services, and now run their own ELT business at ELT Essentials in Australia's New South Wales. James is the author of numerous successful books and series for English language learners, including the fiction readers The Young Riders and Planespotting (a finalist in the 2009 Language Learner Literature Awards). Having been a teacher for many years, Gillian's books for English language learners around the world include Focus on Reading, Mastery in Reading, Grammar Club, Which Side Are You On?, Listen to This, Pop Culture and The New Millennium.
