Trudi has survived nearly three years as a medical student in Paris. Simon, Comte de Beauvonne, her benefactor, is feeling insecure after his heart attack. His first wife of what was supposed to be a marriage of convenience, has died and there are questions to be answered. Trudi has demanded that her marriage remains secret out of respect for the deceased Catherine.
