Peter and Augie are best friends, although that was not always the case.

What started out as a rocky relationship, blossoms into a beautiful friendship--that is, until the boys meet up with Augie's archenemy, Willie Tunney.

With the help of their school's janitor, Cy, and Peter's grandmother, Peggy, the boys get caught up in a series of misadventures until a tragedy befalls them.
