Sally writes a Christmas wish list to give to Santa when she and her mother go to a shopping mall. Every day Sally changes her mind and goes to another mall to give Santa an new list. Sally becomes concerned. Santa looks different each time: sometimes he is shorter, sometimes he is taller, and he appears to have a bad memory. She asks her mother difficult questions and part of the mystery is revealed
