Bill Baird has been diagnosed with a terminal illness. His business also faces bankruptcy. To make matters worse he's been playing the horses and is in debt to a loan shark who wants his money, or Baird's life. His only way out is to hire a hit man to arrange an accidental death in order to collect double indemnity on his life insurance policies. When he finds out that he's not dying and his business begins to show signs of recovering from its financial problems he is very happy.
