Sophie Cutler is an American journalist assigned to investigate a nonprofit children's hospital in Northern Europe for a routine story. But when the doctors are inexplicably secretive, she becomes suspicious and uncovers a series of mysterious deaths and something far more sinister. The days are cold and gray as Sophie travels from Helsinki through the Baltic countries, digging up graves in ancient cemeteries, and ultimately finding an ominous decommissioned nuclear power plant in an old Soviet town, which may answer the mystery as to what the good doctors are up to.
