A lonely cabin on the Bay of Fundy, where the fifty-foot tides demand careful vigilance. Nova Scotia friends, Lucie and Monique, hole up there to escape from Monique's violent husband.

But this safe haven becomes a crime scene when someone shoots an American woman camping nearby and runs off with her toddler. Lucie promises the dying mother she'll make sure the child gets home. Then she discovers that the assailant in the dark was not some stranger. It was Monique. Mad with grief after her own child drowned that morning, Monique believes she has just rescued her own little Antoine from a kidnapper.
