The Woodsmen

Autor Chris Glode
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 18 noi 2008
This novel is about the classic themes of love and loss - but while it is a tale of love between father and son and son and lover, it is also a tribute to a fading way of life. The book brings the reader to a small town in the coastal foothills of Oregon, just a few decades ago, but it's a world apart from cities and fast-paced technology. A multigenerational logging family strives to maintain their way of life and their livelihood in the midst of multi-state conglomerates and a changing industry, all the while dealing with the daily risks facing those who earn their living in the woods. Its characters are not pretty people - this is a hard-drinking, hard-working group, with their own prejudices against city folk and desk jobs, their own weaknesses in personal relationships. But it is, at heart, a multi-tiered love story for a life that will not come again. The author was born and raised in Western Oregon. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Oregon. He currently lives in Central Oregon with his girlfriend and dog, and is employed as a federal wildland firefighter.
