With secrets both past and present coming to light, the fourteenth installment in the Lane Winslow Mysteries sees King Cove’s favourite sleuth wrestling with her own future while weaving together the most unlikely of threads.
Fall is on the horizon, and Lane Winslow is looking for ways to stay busy—not for dead bodies. But amidst bread-making lessons and small-town gossip, a resurfaced corpse and a call for help from a nearby acquaintance tell her she won’t be staying out of trouble for long. She soon finds herself tangled in the messy past of two unforthcoming former Wrens whose worst secret appears to be back from the dead. And to make matters worse, Lane realizes helping them might mean keeping secrets from those she loves most.
Meanwhile, Inspector Darling is thrust into a new case of his own when an expert logger suffers a fatal accident—one that might not be an accident after all. Newlywed Sergeant Ames attempts to integrate April McAvity into the force, all while keeping his bride and the mayor happy. At the same time, April is desperate to keep her long-fought-for career, but longings of the heart threaten to derail her entirely.
Loaded with foreboding for the past, present, and future, the latest Lane Winslow mystery is deliciously entwined in all the complications of new beginnings, uncertain futures, and the unrelenting past.
