Aurora never identified with the title of Shanan Princess. All she ever wanted was to work her way through the military ranks: an atypical yet perfectly reasonable goal, given her situation. Not only is she behind her brother, a magical winged horse, in the line of succession, but their father the king is a practically immortal wizard content to let her pursue her own path.
That is, until her father summons her one day, explaining that she could be their last desperate hope against the dragons should he die. And against all logic, he is dying. The problem is, Aurora hasn't inherited his magic, and now she's expected to take responsibility for dozens of ancient, ruinous beasts on the impossible chance that her power should manifest late.
