Autor MR Peter Roosevelt Johnson Ilustrat de MS Karen Roosevelt Johnson
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 9 dec 2015
The Taverner's Tale A True History Is it mere chance that the rolling thunder of a voice from 400 years past has again been heard anew? What is this tale? How came it to be? This much is clear: it is a play that relates the adventures of two young men. It is written principally in iambic pentameter, the favored verse form of William Shakespeare. It is set in a time of oncoming war, Elizabethan England in 1588, the year that Spain launched its threatened attack with its vast and dreaded Armada. The men are actors, each determined to earn a living and possible fame as writers. They are returning to London on foot from Wales in southwest England carrying letters from an Earl when they meet a Preacher, a Mercer and two lovely young Damsels. That is when and where their adventures begin; and their adventures peril life and freedom. The truth of the story then told remains for the reader alone to determine. The possible origin of the manuscript for The Taverner's Tale is discussed in the book's extensive Preface. While parental discretion is advised as portions of the play are written in the earthy, bawdy and violence ridden style of many of the plays from the Elizabethan Era, the book with its extensive preface and footnote commentary is suitable for adult purchasers. Individual purchases are available from "Amazon" and its international affiliates as well as from some bookstores and commercial entities retail and wholesale outlets.
