Lucien Vayne doesn't know who gave him the runic tattoos that line his forearms. He doesn't know why they give him the power to tear demons from the possessed and destroy them. For everyone else in Esterra, possession is a death sentence-if not the slow withering of mind and body as the demon feeds, then a quick end by a demon hunter's rifle. Even the priests of the Vitalic Church are powerless once possession has set in.
Struggling to combat the increasing surge of possessions, Vayne begins to hear disturbing rumors: ward walls are failing, demons are hunting in packs, and entire towns have fallen silent. Most disturbing of all is the enigmatic message brought to Vayne through a demon-possessed young boy: "It is time to come home."
For Lucien Vayne, meeting Liam is like looking in a mirror. Both abandoned at a young age, both missing critical memories, and both marked by identical tattoos. In an effort to discover the origin of their shared tattoos and, in turn, uncover the source of his own abilities, Vayne maps a risky route through the demon-possessed Bloodlands to the holy city of Skygate. If he proves successful, perhaps Vayne can save Esterra and solve his own mystery.
