INTRIGUE. . .ROMANCE. . .REVOLUTION The story opens in 1904 when Lithuanian Nationalists ambush a Russian train bringing guns and ammunition to the Kovno Fortress. During the attack, Jonas kills several Russians becoming a hero. Guilt-ridden after killing his first men, he seeks absolution from a priest who reports him to the Tsar's secret police. Shortly after leaving the church, he meets Xenia, the daughter of the Russian colonel in charge of the fortress. The story is full of passion, espionage, love, and the history of the 1905 Russian Revolution and the U.S. immigrant experience.
