Craig has failed at the priesthood twice, but he hasn't stopped looking for God.
He just never expected to find Him in a steam room.
Tucked inside a threadbare men's locker room in Buffalo, the aging steam room becomes an unlikely sanctuary-a place where strangers shed more than their clothes. Through the fog come stories rarely spoken aloud: sex and addiction, betrayal and forgiveness, grief and friendship, fathers and sons, broken marriages, lost faith, second chances, and the quiet desperation of people trying to make sense of their lives.
Craig has a front-row seat to it all.
A former Catholic priest and Protestant minister with his own complicated relationship with faith, Craig listens, observes, remembers, and occasionally gets pulled into the lives unfolding around him. Some encounters are funny. Some are disturbing. Others force him to confront memories and questions he would rather leave buried. Again and again, ordinary conversations become unexpected confessions, and the boundary between the sacred and the profane becomes increasingly difficult to find.
This is God Noir-the sacred darkness where God hides in plain sight, appearing in the people and places where no respectable seeker would think to look.
Raw, irreverent, compassionate, and deeply human, The Steam Room Diaries explores what happens when people have nowhere left to hide and someone is willing to listen.
Step inside the steam. Take a seat beside Craig. And discover what people reveal when they think no one is listening.
