The St. Andrews Influence: The Old Course and Its Connection to the Legacy of American Golf
Autor David Sowellen Limba Engleză Hardback – mai 2027
This man leads the forming of a golf club in Yonkers, New York. In honor of the Old Course, it is named St. Andrew’s, distinguished from its namesake by an apostrophe. From the St. Andrew’s in Yonkers and aided by the migration of a number of golf professionals from the original St. Andrews, the game sweeps across the U.S.A.
Americans stamp their own approach on the game both in style of play and ingenuity. In a short period of time they begin to travel across the Atlantic to compete in tournaments at St. Andrews. Sam Snead, Bobby Jones, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, John Daly, Tiger Woods, and Stacy Lewis have all left their indelible marks on the Old Course.
Rich in anecdotes about many of the best American amateurs and pro golfers, The St. Andrews Influence depicts the deeply rooted connections between the Old Course and American golf from the late 1800s through the modern Open Championships, illuminating a sport that continues to flourish in America.

Recenzii
“David Sowell tells the captivating story of how American golf fell for the Old Course, and never quite got over it. A fine, fast read for anyone who’s ever felt the pull of St. Andrews. Win the Old Course ballot, then pack this book with your clubs.”—Tom Coyne, New York Times best-selling author of A Course Called America
“Everyone in golf knows of St. Andrews and its rumpled and brown golf course and its place as the home of golf. David Sowell has written a fascinating treatise on how the dominoes fell from the Auld Grey Toun and influenced every nook and cranny of golf in America—from the Apple Tree Gang to Van Cortlandt Park to Donald Ross coming across the pond. And there’s plenty of nifty trivia about the Old Course itself.”—Lee Pace author of The Golden Age of Pinehurst: The Story of the Rebirth of No. 2
“From the days of Old Tom to those of Tiger, St. Andrews has held a special place in the heart of American golfers. David Sowell unloads a shag bag full of stories that remind lovers of golf history why the Old Course is the home of golf. The St. Andrews Influence should be required reading for any golfer wanting to know how the game was exported to America.”—John Dechant, author of Little Poison: Paul Runyan, Sam Snead, and a Long-Shot Upset at the 1938 PGA Championship
“Upon winning the Open Championship at Carnoustie in 1953 in his only appearance in the prestigious tournament, Ben Hogan declined to drive the short distance to historic St. Andrews. Hogan being Hogan, he resisted the siren song from the birthplace of the sport he devoted his life to. Fortunately for golf afficionados, author David Sowell has heeded the call. The St. Andrews Influence is a compelling and comprehensive history of the world’s most venerated course. David Sowell’s magnificent book brings back memories of Slammin’ Sam, Arnie, Jack, Tiger, and other greats and their stirring performances in the hallowed Home of Golf.”—Ed Gruver, author of The Wee Ice Mon Cometh: Ben Hogan’s 1953 Triple Slam and One of Golf’s Greatest Summers
