The Spider King: The Most Notorious Criminal Mastermind You've Never Heard Of

Autor Everett De Morier
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 3 dec 2026
You’ve never heard of Roman Ganzha. But if you lived or worked in America between 1997 and 2016, there’s a good chance he stole from you.

The Spider King is the never-before-told true story of a Ukrainian child prodigy who became one of the most dangerous cybercriminals and real-world operators in modern history. By age twelve, Roman Ganzha was hacking government systems. By his twenties, he was earning hundreds of thousands of dollars a week for the Russian mob, founding cybercrime networks like Anonymous and Silk Road, and pulling off audacious diamond heists using nothing more than fake IDs, Post-it notes, and nerve.

Roman built malware that still infects networks today. He hacked the FBI, moved millions for organized crime, and stole an estimated $250 million—all while remaining a ghost in the system. And then, at the height of his power, he walked away.

With thousands of open warrants still active against him and constant pressure to return to the criminal underworld, Roman risks everything to tell his story for the first time. Written with acclaimed true crime author Everett De Morier, The Spider King is part confession, part cautionary tale, and a rare, firsthand look inside the shadowy worlds of cybercrime, organized crime, and survival.

The Spider King is a gripping saga of brilliance, brutality, and redemption, and the true cost of living a life where freedom is always one step out of reach.

Recenzii

Praise for The Spider King

“I have seen firsthand how Everett De Morier approaches a story—with respect, patience, and a commitment to the truth. He doesn’t just collect facts; he finds the human story beneath them. And in The Spider King, he proves that the truth, when told by the right writer, can be more thrilling than fiction.”—Peter Chin, former Dai Lo of New York City's notorious Ghost Shadows, and subject of the book In the Ghost Shadows

The Spider King is a gripping, heart-racing story...I read this book in six hours because I couldn't put it down.”—Bobby Shmurda, multiplatinum Brooklyn rapper and founder of the modern Brooklyn drill movement

"The Spider King is one of those rare non-fiction books so stunning that I actually stopped reading at one point—just to remind myself it wasn’t fiction.”—Prioleau Alexander, bestselling author of You Want Fries With That? and Dispatches Along the Way and newspaper columnist

"The Spider King is a well crafted and gripping depiction of an insanely interesting and resilient man’s journey. Roman is an enigma, and what he’s chosen to do with his time here, with his brilliance, is both beautiful and tragic. His cautionary tale and the journey he went on with DeMorier in order to tell it is the stuff great films are made of."—Brian Esquivel, producer of The Institute, HBO's The Newsroom, Entourage and numerous independent features

"The Spider King is unique and tantalizing right from the prologue. One feels the danger and urgency of the book itself, created while its subject balances at the center of an imploding web. Though this book—and its endlessly complex title figure—never use the term, it is ultimately a saga of redemption, reminiscent of King Lear’s villainous Edmund, who says 'some good I mean to do, Despite of mine own nature.’”—Douglas King, professor of English, Gannon University and author of Shakespeare’s World: The Tragedies and William Shakespeare: Facts and Fictions

"Everett De Morier has done something remarkably rare: he's found a true crime at its most original. The Spider King is as much an international techno thriller as it is a memoir, delivering astonishing access to a hidden criminal world while never losing sight of the humanity at its center. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough."—Erick Mertz, award-winning author of the Strange Air and Black Springs series, ghostwriter, and founder of Erick Mertz Writing

The Spider King is a riveting true crime memoir that pulls readers deep into the hidden world of cybercrime, organized crime, and one man’s extraordinary attempt to leave it all behind. Fast paced, suspenseful, and thought provoking, it’s a gripping story of redemption, survival, and the price of choosing a different path.”—Juan Catalan, author of Played and subject of the acclaimed Netflix documentary Long Shot

Everett De Morier is one of the greatest storytellers working today. In The Spider King, he takes a story that seems impossible to believe and transforms it into a gripping exploration of ambition, power, loyalty, and betrayal. More than a crime story, this is a deeply human portrait of the choices people make, the worlds they create, and the consequences that follow. De Morier has a rare ability to turn real lives into unforgettable stories.”—Kevin Cooper, founder of Hornpin Media
