They say I never had a brother. But I remember. And I know the truth. When his little brother Benjy is taken by social services, five-year-old Tommy Farrier is certain of just one thing - it is all his fault. Despite his brutal stepfather's insistence that he never even had a brother, and too young to understand what really happened, Tommy's hazy memories of Benjy keep him afloat as a ruthless world begins to close in. But for a boy growing up surrounded by rage and neglect, a life of crime may just be the safest option. As Tommy falls deeper into a world fuelled by drugs, money and violence, faces from his long-forgotten past begin to return. But are they what Tommy needs to abandon this life, to find Benjy, or will they simply push him deeper? Written with poignant tenderness and striking vulnerability, The Silent Brother is a heartrending thriller perfect for fans of Chris Whitaker, S.A. Cosby and Douglas Stuart.
