Notă biografică
Rilke is a distinguished German-language poet who lived from 1875-1926. He was born in Prague and traveled extensively in Europe through the unsettled years on the continent, including in the city of Paris from 1902-1910 where he acted as a secretary for Rodin, the sculptor.
Rilke wrote 400 poems originally in French and this series, Les Roses, has not received the attention it deserves either in English or in German translations.
This book of translations into English aims to bring more attention to the poems and their profound meditation on mortality.
