Belisarius is a quantum man, an engineered Homo quantus who fled the powerful insight of dangerously addictive quantum senses. He found a precarious balance as a con man, but when a client offers him untold wealth to move a squadron of warships across an enemy wormhole, he must embrace his birthright to even try. In fact, the job is so big that he'll need a crew built from all the new sub-branches of humanity. If he succeeds, he might trigger an interstellar war, but success might also point the way to the next step of Homo quantus evolution.

* The breathtaking debut from acclaimed short story writer Derek Künsken.
* The Quantum Magician is set in the same universe as Derek's Persephone Descending, which appeared in the November, 2014 issue of Analog, as well as stories published in Analog's sister magazine, Asimov's Scenice Fiction.
* "With its audacious con job, scintillating future technology, and meditations on the nature of fractured humanity, The Quantum Magician is a pleasure to read." – Yoon Ha Lee
Hotly anticipated new series following in the genre-busting footsteps of Nine Fox Gambit and Raven Strategem

Victor Tanasa a dat nota:

I was so close to giving up on this. The book starts with Bel, the con man, assembling a group of misfits to help him pull off an audacious heist, Ocean's 11 style. It felt a bit by the numbers and I wasn't surprised when all of them agreed to join in. This part was sprinkled with fragments of world-building and characterisation, but too little for my tastes and by the hundredth page I wasn't sure I cared about all these characters. But after the gang got together, things started improving fast. Motivations were discussed, you got to learn more about the different factions inhabiting Künsken's universe, the plan and its implications are revealed. From there till the end it was great fun. The author clearly possesses a vast imagination. The way he constructed the different races of mankind was really well done, as were the the Quantum's man abilities. Although they stem from real science but then quickly venture into fantasy territory, that wasn't an issue at all, as they were interesting and used well. Excellent for a debut novel.
