With the loss of his beloved wife and the strains of World War Two still raging around him, Captain Leif Svenerson places care of his ten month old daughter Lori into the hands of the Liverpool Welfare Department. Mistakenly, taken into a Children's Home, and little Lori (now Lowry) is plunged into a brutal world of cruelty and neglect.
