The Tribunal collapsed and with it, Rea's reputation. When she wakes up two years later to find her father and Kal still prying for answers, Rea begins to wonder how she could have ever put faith in their so called "dutiful" ruler. Milo regrets showing up at the third trial, realizing his stubborn nature is what got him into this mess. But when the Guild comes knocking, he finds there's a little more fight left in him. Opposing forces now stand reluctantly side by side but it becomes clear that everyone seems to be looking for the same thing: answers. There's far more to the Chancellor than meets the eye and if they have any hopes of taking him down, discovering the truth is step number one. With heavy hearts, guilt ridden minds and growing tension, Rea, Milo and the Guild all have to answer for the choices they made during the trials. As the group crosses the country for their solution, each are met with a different trial of their own that just might break them.
