Cine a parcurs paginile volumului The Oversight va recunoaște aici aceeași atmosferă densă de Londra victoriană întunecată, însă The Paradox extinde considerabil limitele acestui univers. Suntem de părere că forța acestui roman rezidă în „geografia” sa magică unică. Conceptul lumii dintre oglinzi, unde Mr. Sharp și Sara Falk sunt captivi, nu este doar un simplu decor, ci o extensie a regulilor stricte stabilite de autor: știm că fierul rece ține la distanță fiarele întunericului și că reflexiile infinite sunt porți periculoase.
