The Painted Loom
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 2 mar 2027
Trained as a graphic designer and artist in London, Deirdre Dyson draws on a painterly vocabulary in her work as a carpet designer. This volume brings together more than 200 of Dyson’s carpets, organized thematically according to her sources of inspiration: the botanical world of flowers, plants, and leaves; the animal realm of butterflies and birds; and the fluidity and translucence of water. Each rug is a unique piece, sometimes developed in multiple colorways.
Rather than simply presenting the finished works, the book offers a narrative centered on the creative process: from the initial sketch of an idea, through the careful study of color and materials, to the technical challenges inherent in translating painted artwork into a design that serves as the template for weaving. All of Deirdre Dyson’s rugs are handwoven in Nepal, the result of exceptional craftsmanship. In Kathmandu, highly skilled artisans produce each piece using traditional techniques. The rugs thus represent a perfect synthesis: an ancient Eastern craft in dialogue with the most contemporary expressions of Western design.

Notă biografică
Deirdre Dyson trained at Byam Shaw School of Art in London and Wimbledon College of Arts. Her engagement with the world of weaving began in 1998 when she met Richard Ringrose, owner of a renowned London carpet gallery, with whom she collaborated before becoming his partner. In 2000, she acquired the gallery and refocused her artistic practice on the design and production of contemporary rugs. Today, she creates and presents her work in her two galleries in London and Paris.
