In Mason Falls, Pennsylvania, five women are connected by a pattern no one understands. Three are missing. Two have been murdered-each found wearing the wedding ring of a missing woman. Newly assigned FBI Behavioral Analysis Agent Nasir Knox is called in to find the connection. But the deeper he digs into the victims' lives, the more disturbing the truth becomes. The killer wasn't a stranger. He helped them. Fixed things. Showed up when they needed somebody. He became useful-and usefulness became trust. Now another woman may already be in his sights. For Nasir, his first major case will test everything he believes about profiling, evidence, and the people we allow closest to us. THE ONES HE KNEW is Book One in the Nasir Knox Thrillers, a psychological crime series about predators who don't always hide in the dark.
Long Book Description
He wasn't a stranger. He was someone they trusted. In Mason Falls, Pennsylvania, five women are tied to a case that makes no sense. Rachel Mercer is missing. Danielle Foster is missing. Monica Hayes is missing. Kelly Ryan and Imani Brooks are dead. The connection between them is impossible to ignore: each murdered woman was discovered wearing the wedding ring of one of the missing wives. Freshly assigned to the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit, Nasir Knox arrives determined not to make the mistake investigators make when they want an answer too badly-turning a theory into fact before the evidence earns it. Instead of beginning with how the women died, Nasir begins with how they lived. Who helped them? Who knew their routines? Who could enter their homes without raising alarm? Who could ask them to get into a car without making them afraid? The deeper Nasir and his team dig, the clearer one terrifying possibility becomes: these women may not have been chosen by a stranger. The man they're hunting knew how to become useful. He fixed things. Gave rides. Opened doors. Solved problems. And somewhere along the way, usefulness became familiarity. Familiarity became trust. And trust gave him access. As the investigation closes in, another woman disappears-and this time, Nasir knows the killer is moving while the FBI is watching. His first case will teach him a lesson he will carry for the rest of his career: Not every predator hides in the dark. Some earn the right to look ordinary. THE ONES HE KNEW is the explosive first installment in the Nasir Knox Thrillers by KVNG LEE.
