The Lingering Burden

Autor Brett Kihlmire
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 2 oct 2026
In the spring of 1998, Poland had overwhelmingly voted in support of leaving the Russian-dominated Slavic Federation. While the politicians squabbled over secession, Audra Rozek was in Senatgrad settling matters with a ghost of her past and taking a chance at love. She didn't have high hopes for a whirlwind romance and certainly didn't expect to be dragged into a waking nightmare.
Mistaken for a threat, Audra was taken captive by ultranationalists bent on ensuring a free and independent Poland. Held in an unassuming flat for the duration of the special session, Audra was forced to watch as a vicious contingency plan unfolded on live television.
Three months have passed since the massacre in Senatgrad, and Audra has been haunted by the experience ever since. Far from the man she loves and without many friends, she has struggled with the burden of guilt, anxiety, and other mental afflictions.
Tired of living in fear and dwelling in self-imposed exile, Audra is determined to turn her life around and start living again. But facing one's demons is easier said than done, especially when they've been threatened into silence.

Notă biografică

Brett Kihlmire is an American writer from Southeast Wisconsin, USA. An avid reader, writer, and cinephile for much of his life, writing proved to be a natural calling. Though dabbling in filmmaking and comics during his college years and pursuing a career in journalism, the challenge of the novel was always his true passion.Completing his first novel in the summer of 2007 at the age of 19, Brett has come a long way in his craft by pursuing a degree in history and journalism. Combining a lifelong love of history, post-secondary education, and real-world experience through investigative journalism, Brett crafts his novels through research, intrigue, and a big imagination. He is currently writing two very different series of novels in the comedy and alternate history genres: Smash! and At All Costs.
