During four hot days in midsummer, in southeastern Massachusetts, the main characters in this novel will learn whether marriages can be sustained, affairs balanced, children raised, incestuous desires overcome, if revenge and suicide are solutions to problems, and every character, without exception, will see who she or he is by the end of it.
