The experiences of a German child who survived World War II in Berlin, and who was taken to England where he grew conscious of how the land of his birth had become a pariah among nations. He struggles to retain whatever positive shreds of German identity might be salvaged from the horrors of National Socialist atrocities. Still a boy, he made his way to America as an unaccompanied immigrant to forge a new life from which he never looked back. This is an American story about never quitting.
