This is a true story. It relates to the author's stay at the Protestant Children's Home, Detroit, Michigan, referred to in this book as "The Home." The book deals not only with the children living at The Home during WWII, but also with their experiences in Detroit at that time. "'C.G. Mitchell's account of his childhood days growing up in The Protestant Children's Home is a vivid peek into Detroit's past through the eyes of a child who lived there. Mitchell expertly weaves the historical tidbits of a bygone era with the touching story of a boy and his brother doing their best to bring a measure of joy and comfort in a potentially joyless existence.""
