About the human race some time off in the future being put under scrutiny by a very superior bunch of aliens who are cold hearted and cruel, obsessed with surveillance technology and none to keen on mess, nor the sensual and erotic. Some of the greys become very taken by earthlings. They find our bodies to be interesting, our emotions and hang-ups charming. They like the way we procreate, and get into the human sex thing in a very big way. Weird hybrids result. Interstellar emotional chaos breaks out. The ruling Grays come to view Earthlings as viral, like a bad dose of something that needs rooting out. A Star Chamber is convened, and the renegade Grays who love the earthlings are called to argue in their defense.

The Gray's Anatomy by Rachel ArmstrongLeadtext: The Grays have already encountered human beings during 'alien abductions'. These encounters have been largely accidental, although individuals from both species have demonstrated a remarkable amount of opportunism when they meet one another, since there is a spacetime weakness between the terrestrial solar system and that of Solar 66. The Grays are as unaware of this natural pathway between the two worlds as humans once were and have been equally confused and traumatised by the peculiar meetings between species as human abductees once reported themselves to be. Some intellectual Grays believe in the possibility of humans as real entities, but are unable to persuade their colleagues of this reality, since there is a lack of hard evidence that direct contact between the species has taken place.However, the Psychic Grays, the ruling elite, protect and preserve the psychic integrity of the species from this fact, regarding the acknowledgement of human contact as dangerous. In the same way that humans once denied the existence of alien species, the leaders of the Psychic Grays that preside from the Sensate Senate, also proclaim that humans do not exist. The Grays' leaders actively discourage reports of alien encounters and any colleagues entertaining the notion that they have encountered humans in any way are regarded as dysfunctional.Treatment for these dysfunctional memories is provided by Underground Intelligence who retrieve the experience and erase it. However, those colleagues with persistent delusions are diagnosed as having 'intractable psychic derangement', the treatment for which is 'reassignment'. This involves the culprit being forcibly fed to giant, scavenger Silica Worms who recycle their remains and expel them through their very primitive gut to form a newborn Gray. The newborn is without life until it is reassigned to a new identity at a special node in the psychic network and the 'revitalised' colleague is then considered rehabilitated into the community again, with a perfectly functioning identity.The population on Rune 66 remains stable through this recycling process. Effectively, there is no birth or death, as humans understand it, but a perpetual cycle of existence, each Gray believing it will contribute to the species in a new way every time they are newborn. In practice, only the unhappiest Grays welcome their moment of reassignment, as most colleagues take pride in their work and contribution to the culture, becoming quite attached to their bodies.This, however, concerns the Psychic Grays who are intellectual beings with very little attachment to their bodies. In order to maintain their influence on the species, it is vital they ensure that 'psychic excellence' is generally embraced and the ultimate goal for all colleagues.To assist this struggle towards psychic excellence, the psychic Grays maintain correct thought by popularising educational and rehabilitation programmes over the psychic network. Many of these indoctrinating programmes are thinly disguised as entertainment for the ordinary colleagues.The ordinary colleagues, or Crystalline Grays, look forward to their recreational breaks, or downtimes, where they are free to explore the psychic networks individually or in groups, regarding them as a virtual refuge from their humdrum psychic duties. The psychic strength of the Crystalline Grays brothers the ruling elite, so a taboo against touching one another has been implemented. Indeed, the Psychic bodies will offer them happier lives through the virtual experiences available to them on the psychic networks. Some Crystalline colleagues even hope they will become so adept at uploading into their psychic networks that they will make a transition from being Crystalline to being Psychic in nature. If this should occur, then these colleagues would be eligible for election to the Sensate Senate, the most prestigious assignment that can be held in the metropolis. In reality, this transition is unlikely to occur, as there is a real and permanent difference in the anatomy of Crystalline and Psychic Grays. The senators shape Gray culture. They are responsible for the content of the information on the psychic networks and oversee the proper production of newborns in the underground metropolis. They are also responsible for regulating events on the overground. Although very few colleagues actually venture onto the surface of the planet, Aerial Intelligence, a crack squadron hand-picked by their leader, Star Commander, ensures that the skies are clear of meteor showers. These seasonal falls produce tremors and quakes if they are not destroyed before they reach the metropolis, upsetting the production of newborns and disturbing the ecosystem. A few independent thinkers have managed to evade the omnipresent control of the Psychic Grays.
