The body of a small town banker is found in pieces in a landfill. Suspicion falls on the garbagemen who found the body and on almost anyone else in this quirky Midwestern town. Mary Beth O'Malley, librarian, undertakes to solve the mystery with two friends but the situation is complicated when an investigative reporter from Manhattan arrives to take charge.
