Three young people, a world war, and the newspaper that brings them together. THE GAZETTE: FROM DETROIT TO THE TRENCHES is a coming of age story that chronicles the lives of fifteen year old Bob Stevens, his friend Maggie Robinson, and eighteen year old Davy McLeod. It is set during the turmoil of the Great War. Between 1915 and 1918 in Detroit, Michigan the real life Bob Stevens wrote a newspaper called, "The Gazette". His newspapers are the inspiration for this historical novel. Bob wants to be a war correspondent. For practice, he writes a neighborhood newspaper. He only hopes that the war will last long enough for him to get to Europe. Smart, independent Maggie understands the sacrifices war requires; she has two brothers fighting in France. Davy joins the British forces to escape his job in a Scottish mine. As the world is tested and changed by the Great War, so too are Bob, Maggie, and Davy.
