Held together for hundreds of years by the Gael Gates, the Federation is on the verge of breakdown. Three people have disappeared into the mysterious portals, and the gates have been ordered to be shut down.
Culann Penrose is called in to investigate the disappearances, and he finds out that the ancient portal system is falling apart. The Druidry opposes the investigation, still seething at his denunciation of the Druidry twenty years ago. Culann finds out that the flawed technology has inflamed a new Elemental, which is out to destroy him.
