La prima vedere, am putea crede că avem în față doar o altă repovestire a originii celui mai rapid om din lume, însă ceea ce descoperă cititorul în paginile acestui volum este o reinventare vizuală spectaculoasă a mitologiei personajului. Apreciem în mod deosebit felul în care echipa formată din Francis Manapul și Brian Buccellato reușește să transforme dinamismul mișcării în artă statică. Ne-a atras atenția structura narativă care nu se mulțumește doar cu viteza fizică, ci introduce o provocare intelectuală: Barry Allen trebuie să învețe să își folosească mintea la fel de repede cum îi rulează picioarele pentru a face față amenințării reprezentate de Mob Rule. Atmosfera te trimite cu gândul la Flash Vol. 1: Lightning Strikes Twice (Rebirth), deși stilul grafic de aici marchează o voce proprie, mult mai fluidă și experimentală în compoziția panourilor. Găsim în această carte o energie debordantă, unde culorile și liniile par să pulseze odată cu eroul, oferind o experiență de lectură cursivă și surprinzător de profundă sub aspectul psihologic. Spre deosebire de lucrările ulterioare ale autorilor, precum Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong, unde accentul cade pe spectacolul de proporții epice, aici accentul este pus pe descoperirea intimă a puterilor și pe responsabilitatea imensă care vine odată cu accesarea forței Speed Force. Este un punct de plecare perfect pentru oricine dorește să înțeleagă de ce The Flash rămâne un pilon central al benzilor desenate americane.

Notă biografică

Francis Manapul is the artist and co-writer of The Flash, which is part of DC Comics—The New 52. His previous work for DC Comics includes books such as Adventure Comics, Superman/Batman, and The Legion Of Super-Heroes. His work has been published in various publications from the likes of Aspen Comics, Editions Delcourt, Top Cow Productions, and Devils Due just to name a few. Manapul was a TV Presenter on SyFy's Beast Legends, in which he and a team of scientists and adventurers traveled the globe in search of scientific data to create mythical beasts. Manapul was born in Manila, Philippines and currently calls Toronto, Canada his home.

Brian Buccellato started in comics as a colorist for the Marvel/DC crossover Punisher/Batman and went on to color for all major publishers including work on Uncanny X-Men, Superman, The Flash and many others.  Brian began writing as part of The Story Company, collaborating on a number of screenplays.  While working for Top Cow, he started his comics writing with The Darkness, before teaming with Francis Manapul to co-write The Flash for DC Comics.  He also writes and illustrates the creator-owned title Foster.
