Jill Nutbeem was born in Paignton Hospital in South Devon and spent her younger years in Totnes, also in South Devon. After losing her father at the age of fourteen, this necessitated a move to Chelmsford in Essex. Upon completing her final year at school, Jill enrolled in a technical college where she undertook a two-and-a-half-year course of pre-nursing skills which led to her nursing training at the age of eighteen. By the age of twenty-one, Jill gained her State Registered Nurse qualification, after which she worked in hospitals and GP practices, during which she married and had two children. Jill is a Christian, and in later years this and her nursing experience led to a missionary stint in Indonesia before settling back in Devon in recent years and enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
