A recovering alcoholic at forty-five, Lake Maitland moves to the small Scottish village of Brae for a fresh start. Falling down the stairs while intoxicated is an unfortunate backslide. Particularly since it means a broken kneecap and confinement to the upstairs of her railway cottage.

The Station Hotel is an imposing Victorian building, shuttered these past twenty-five years. No one wants to talk about it, likely because the hotel is connected to a series of disappearances. It might even be linked to Lake's own brother going missing three decades ago.

But if the hotel's been empty, why do the lights keep coming on?

As she connects the dots between each mystery, Lake grows closer to her seemingly well-meaning neighbors. Everyone holds a piece to the puzzle. But not everyone wants it to be solved.
