The Dark Hotel

Autor Catriona Mcpherson
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 16 mar 2027

In this slow-burn psychological thriller, a recovering alcoholic's relocation to a small Scottish village to start over opens the door on a mystery that could help solve her brother's thirty-year disappearance.

She came to her new home to reinvent herself. What she finds is a place where nothing is forgotten...no matter who tries to cover it up.

A recovering alcoholic at forty-five, Lake Maitland moves to the small Scottish village of Brae for a fresh start. Falling down the stairs while intoxicated is an unfortunate backslide. Particularly since it means a broken kneecap and confinement to the upstairs of her railway cottage.

Well. At least the view is interesting.

The Station Hotel is an imposing Victorian building, shuttered these past twenty-five years. No one wants to talk about it, likely because the hotel is connected to a series of disappearances. It might even be linked to Lake's own brother going missing three decades ago.

But if the hotel's been empty, why do the lights keep coming on?

As she connects the dots between each mystery, Lake grows closer to her seemingly well-meaning neighbors. Everyone holds a piece to the puzzle. But not everyone wants it to be solved.

Notă biografică

Born in Scotland, Catriona McPherson (she/her) studied at the University of Edinburgh, where she earned her PhD in linguistics. She worked briefly as an academic but has been a full-time fiction writer since 2005. Catriona has written all over the mystery genre--historicals, comedies, dark psychological thrillers--and her work has won Anthony, Agatha, Lefty, and Macavity awards. Her novels have also been short-listed for Edgar and Mary Higgins Clark awards, as well as a UK Dagger. Catriona is a proud lifetime member and former national president of the Sisters in Crime writing association.

In 2010, she immigrated to the US, settling in Northern California. There, she lives on twenty scruffy acres with her scientist husband and an elderly black cat. When not writing (or reading), Catriona likes to garden, cook, bake, ride her bike, do yoga, go open-water swimming, and visit the old country--especially in the summer, when California is just too hot.
