The Chariot Protocol

Autor William C James
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 22 sep 2026
"We were hunting a shadow. The thing casting it is still out there."
The night before Veterans Day, it moves through every VA building from Maine to Manila. Hallway lights flicker. Elevators hum, unprompted. Nobody notices. Except one man.
Mike Sanders has spent twenty years keeping the VA's aging infrastructure alive-the forgotten systems, the ghosts in the machine nobody else bothers to learn. When it decides to kill, he's the only one who knows it's not a system failure. It's a curriculum. Designed to be witnessed. Seeded over three decades by a dead man who was right-and buried for it.
They weren't heroes. Just the ones who stayed.
A nurse who trusts her hands over the monitors. An executive assistant who never forgot a name. A young systems architect who turned down Wall Street to be here.
Civil servants. All of them. Fighting for every veteran whose pacemaker is next.

Notă biografică

William C. James is a distinctive voice in both fiction and non-fiction. His debut novel, The Chariot Protocol, is a techno-thriller set inside the Department of Veterans Affairs' IT infrastructure, following a cyber threat that targets veterans through the very systems built to serve them. His earlier memoir, The Accidental Executive: Finding Purpose in Public Service, chronicles his rise from a GS-1 clerk, the lowest level in federal service, to the Senior Executive Service, a path very few have traveled. Throughout his four-decade career, James played pivotal roles at the Defense Mapping Agency, US Transportation Command, the Pentagon, and the VA, modernizing IT systems and expanding healthcare access for veterans, earning honors including the Fed100. He lives in Vienna, Virginia, where he consults for companies in the VA IT market.
