Recenzii

James E. Kelly's The Catholic Reformation: A Very Short Introduction is a welcome addition to the literature on early modern Catholicism. Lucidly written, and exhibiting a wealth of distilled scholarship, it will be consulted with profit by students and teachers alike.
In this latest addition to the "Very Short Introductions" series, Kelly (Univ. of Durham, UK) defines the Catholic Reformation as distinct from the 16th-century Counter Reformation that confronted Protestant successes. He situates the movement in the history of Catholic reform movements, including its ongoing legacy through the Enlightenment and into the 20th century. This is not an introduction but a clearly written overview for readers already conversant with its events, trends, and major personalities. ..Recommended.
