The Burning Continent: The European War, cartea 2
Autor Brian C. Thompsonen Limba Engleză Paperback – 21 aug 2026
What if France fell before Poland?
It has already happened. France is gone, taken in weeks by an army that moved through Belgium before anyone in Warsaw thought to worry. Britain stands alone with an ocean at her back and no army left on the mainland. And now Germany turns east, ahead of every schedule the world's staff colleges thought possible, into Poland and then into a Soviet Union betrayed by the men who signed with it.
The Burning Continent is Book Two of The European War. In a single year the map of Europe is redrawn twice. German columns drive toward Moscow at a pace no one predicted. Winston Churchill stands over a map of a continent that is no longer anyone's to defend. Statesmen negotiate from positions they already know are hopeless. Soldiers fight campaigns their commanders never trained for. Families learn how quickly a war they were told would be over reaches into every street and every kitchen.
This is alternate history built on the real thing: real doctrine, real logistics, real institutions, and real men. Nothing happens because the plot requires it. Everything happens because the machinery of 1939 and 1940 would have made it happen, once a single death in October 1938 sent the whole apparatus down a road the record never took.
From the author of The Unnecessary War, a 2026 Dragon Award Finalist for Best Alternate History Novel, and the American War series, which reached #1 in Alternate History. The Burning Continent carries the European War toward its convergence with the Pacific at El Alamein on July 23, 1942.
Every great story begins with family.

Notă biografică
Brian C. Thompson writes alternate history of the Second World War. Book 1 of The European War, The Unnecessary War, is a finalist for the 2026 Dragon Award for Best Alternate History Novel. His two parallel series, The American War in the Pacific and The European War, follow the same conflict from opposite ends of the world and converge at El Alamein in July 1942. The books began at a kitchen table in Scammon, Kansas, where his great-uncle Fredrick "Gibby" Gibson told his stories to anyone who would sit still. Gibson was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Air Forces who flew the P-38 and the P-51 and earned the Bronze Star and the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters. Thompson's grandfather fought in the First World War. His father served as a first lieutenant. Not every man in the family wore an American uniform: one branch of the line stayed in Styria and was conscripted into the Wehrmacht. That heritage runs through both series. He holds a history degree from Southern Methodist University and lives in Allen, Texas. Every great story begins with family.
