Being born the second son of a landowner, Casper happily accepts that he will be working for his elder brother, but his activities often embarrass his family. Having made a hasty retreat from one such activity he stumbles over a body. On the recommendation of his grandfather he sets out to discover the murderer; a quest in which Casper will experience the harshness of medieval life but not without making some powerful allies.
