When Zen declines to marry the woman his wealthy, society-conscious parents have chosen, he's disowned. Exiled from London, he acts as caretaker aboard one of the family's ships, laid up in the West Country due to the world economic crisis. Within the dark and empty spaces of the Amber, anchored in a stunningly beautiful estuary, are also Harry, Andy and Steph who have their own reasons for being there. Rather than escaping his problems, Zen finds himself being stalked by a local legendary apparition and faced with a threat to his life.
