This new two volume collection allows the reader to track the evolution of (primarily) Western thinking about terrorism over recent decades. Haunted, unsurprisingly, by the spectre of 11 September 2001, it gives writings of the late 1990s, in which authors come to terms with the emergence of a new form of terrorism, a particular poignancy. Articles written immediately after 9/11 show the search for context and meaning that followed the attacks. And essays since the attacks chart the development of the ‘war on terror’, and the various mutations of jihadi movements that continue to dominate headlines today.
