Strength in Numbers: Proverbs From The Hood

Stephen Perkins is a children's author, entrepreneur, and the creator of the Proverbs From The Hood(TM) series. Raised on the South Side of Chicago, his storytelling is shaped by lived experience, community wisdom, and a deep belief in the power of empathy and conversation. After overcoming early life challenges and building a successful career as a technology project manager, Stephen found his true calling through fatherhood. Nightly story time with his children revealed a gap in children's books-stories that reflected real communities while teaching meaningful values without preaching. His books blend engaging characters with social-emotional learning and early STEAM concepts, helping children pause, think critically, and build understanding. Through modern fables inspired by the sayings and lessons of his upbringing, Stephen creates stories that empower children to grow with confidence, curiosity, and compassion.
