A mysterious half-human changeling stalks a young girl, Rioletta, in a remote mountain village. Many doubt her story, but when Rioletta is about to join the Council of Sorcerers, she is set an unusual task: solve the mystery of her childhood abduction. She's forced to face facts that don't fit with her strict traditional upbringing, and she starts a chain of events that will stretch from the twisted trees of the tundra to an ancient ruined city, challenge her society's notions of right and wrong, and topple a regime based on an ancient, and possibly erroneous, document.
