The story takes place, geographically, in Esan, south of Nigeria. It's a book which drags us into that part of Africa, where the young narrator (¿hizoya) makes us understand, not only his pain as a result of his grandmother's death, but also his sentiments and his childhood fantasies - his friends, the exciting New Yam Festival, the dance of masquerades, the cultivation of land, the family reunion, and the future that will come. It's a book that helps us jump into the pool of our own past memories, our infant dreams, already forgotten along the way, as we grow older and face the different challenges of life. Yes, we can grow up, but not all of our childhood experiences/fantasies will ever grow with us. For some memories we have never really said goodbye.
