Still From Somewhere: An Anthology Celebrating Shared Humanity and Belonging is a diverse literary collection published by Quillkeepers Press. Bringing together voices from across different continents and walks of life, the anthology explores the multifaceted concept of "home"-not merely as a physical structure or geographical location, but as an evolving landscape of identity, memory, resilience, and belonging. Through a tapestry of personal essays, memoirs, short fiction, and prose, each writer reflects on how displacement, heritage, upheaval, and personal evolution shape the places people carry within themselves.
The narrative pieces range from intimate family histories and reflections on identity to stories of navigating new environments. In "My Many Homes," Jeffrey Beck traces how a life spent in the military transformed his understanding of home from a childhood bedroom into a cumulative sum of experiences across the globe. Reema Raj's "Can I be my own home?" navigates the complexities of interfaith heritage, inherited generational trauma, and healing within an Indian family dynamic. Charlotte Jean's "Fancy" grapples with class, Southern roots, and the struggle to build a new life in New England without erasing one's past. In "Propositions on Home," J.M.C. Kane reflects on neurodivergence, language, and immigration across four countries, positioning home as a continuous negotiation. From the vibrant, communal life of a "Bombay Balcony" to the stark landscapes of post-collapse survival and the sanctuary of a family campsite under the stars, the anthology captures the universal human pursuit of finding safety, connection, and selfhood in an ever-shifting world.
